Nine Ways to Frame a Picture: Classic Gallery

The first edition of our series on different ways to frame the same image features a classic museum treatment with a clean-lined walnut frame and 8 ply white mat. The mat has a slightly weighted bottom margin to fool the eye into thinking the margins are all the same. A timeless look suitable for any decor.

Framing Recipe: 1. Cranbrook walnut frame by Larson-Juhl
2. Classic 8 ply mat
3. Slightly weighted bottom margin
4. UV-filtering conservation glass

The overall dimensions of this piece are 14.5" x 16.5" To frame it in this fashion would cost approximately $89.

Nine Ways to Frame a Picture

People often ask us what the "right" way to frame a picture is. Unfortunately, or actually fortunately, there is no single right way to frame most pictures. Almost thirty years in this business has led us to a holistic frame design approach where we consider the subject, the style (both of the art and the person it belongs to) and the setting. We've selected a nice little print by Side Door Gallery artist John Copley and over the next couple of weeks are going to frame it nine different ways - different treatments selected by different staff members.
